Downs Devilrays

Welcome to the Downs Devilrays Swim Team! We are a community summer swim team located in the Downs on the Severn neighborhood in Annapolis, Maryland. We compete in the Greater Annapolis Swim League (GASL). Our team provides the opportunity for any Downs resident, their relatives (cousins, grandchildren, nieces/nephews, etc.), and their friends to participate in a fun and challenging swim program that is designed to build strong swimmers and positive relationships with neighbors and local friends. The team is open to children ages 4 through 18 (as of June 1). Our program consists of both developmental and competitive swimmers. 

The developmental program allows some of our younger and less confident swimmers to participate in fun practices where they can hone their skills without having the pressure of competing in meets. Once a swimmer gains the skills and endurance to safely swim a lap independently, they are encouraged to swim in the meets as part of our competitive team. 

The competitive program is open to any swimmer who can swim at least 25 yards independently without stepping on the bottom or using the lane lines to advance their progress. If you are not sure if your child is ready to swim in a meet, you are encouraged to discuss it with one of the coaches. They will evaluate and let you know when your child is ready to compete or what they need to work on to reach that goal. 

In addition to swim practice instruction and meets, our team also offers opportunities for social and community engagement for the whole family with the weekly Friday night pep rallies, Kids Helping Kids Charity Swim-a-Thon, and spontaneous after practice happy hours around the pool.

For the 2026 season, daily practice for both teams will begin on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at the Downs Pool. The season will conclude with the annual Summerfest celebration on Sunday July 19th.

MISSION - The Downs Devilrays Swim Team aspires to allow children and youth to realize their social, emotional, and athletic potential in and out of the pool. Through teaching and promoting good sportsmanship, competition, health and wellness, and community engagement, the Downs Devilrays Swim Team participates learn respect, and appreciation for teammates, coaches, families, neighbors, and our neighboring communities.
